10 Birthdays

Yup..10...That's the number of birthdays I will celebrate with (mostly) family and friends during the month of December- including mine next week!

So to keep up with all of the festivities- we attended 2 birthday parties last weekend!- I decided to stray from a holiday-themed song and instead share a birthday-related one. It works, too, because I've been working a lot on this topic with some of my students, which is appropriately answering the questions "How old are you?" It seems to become troublesome, because it's so similar to "How are you?" Already, one student is doing a great job of answering the former question correctly, when paired with this song.

While there are some of us who would rather not answer the question (truthfully), it's very important for kids to understand the concept of age, especially as it changes from year to year!

I AM (_) YEARS OLD
Every year we get a little bit older,
We add one number to our age
Every year we have a birthday,
That day stays the same, but our age will change.
Think about it, you’ll know what to do
When someone says, “How old are you?”
You say…

I am ___ years old,
This year I am ___ years old.
I am ___ years old,
This year I am ___ years old.
This year I am ___ years old.
